The Glory of Christmas
Richard Bradley
Luke 2:8-20
God has a way of breaking through in times when He's least expected. We see this throughout the Bible. Perhaps you've seen this in your own life? Ever had one of those ''God moments'' that couldn't be explained except by God's intervention? What should we do when we experience on of those events? We should do exactly what the shepherds did after their heavenly encounter with the angels and their visit with Jesus.
For the shepherds that first Christmas was a time of glory and glorifying. This God moment changed their lives forever and caused them to have a new appreciation for worship. Don't get so caught up in the traditions of Christmas that you miss out on the glory of history's most important event.
Read Luke 2:8-20
THE GLORY OF THE FIRST CHRISTMAS WAS INITIALIZED BY A REFLECTION
9 And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.
No one will ever be inclined to glorify God until they have experienced God's glory. We can experience His glory in a number of ways. The key is that our eyes and hearts must be open to Him and aware of His presence. On that lonely Judean hillside the shepherds experienced something they'd never seen before and likely would never experience again. They saw angelic beings, still radiant with God shekinah glory, and heard them tell of the birth of a king.
What better calling card could the angels possess other than God's radiated glory? Their personal brilliance proved they had been in God's presence. Their message of the Savior's must have been valid because it came directly from God.
We celebrate Christmas, not because of the season's traditions but because Christmas celebrates the world's most important God moment.
