Have you read about the champion body builder?
A former Mr. North America of body building was shot to
death in a dispute over his place in line at a self-service
car wash. Frank Wainwright, 26, of Clifton Heights, Delaware
County, died of a gunshot wound to the right side, police
said. Authorities were seeking the gunman who sped away in
his car, according to witnesses. Wainwright, who operated a
Philadelphia fitness center, was named Mr. Pennsylvania, and
Mr. North America in body building competitions in 1978.
I don't know all that happened, that's all the paper said. Somebody got
angry and in the flash of that anger, on the part of either one or both parties,
a man is dead and tragedy has come.
Anger is something that becomes public sooner or later. You just can't hold
it in too long. It will boil and roll and sooner or later it will explode - in
your family, where you work, in your peer group, at recreation time, or at
church. Sooner or later that anger will come to the front and Oh, how it
embarrasses us.
Well, it happened to David. Wouldn't you know that after a tremendous
experience of the presence of God and great self-restraint and control, then
suddenly we see this angry David. But we also see a cool heart that ministered
to him. Let's look at the Word of God.
I. THE PROVOCATION
In verses 1 to 12, we see what brought it on. The first verse tells us that
Samuel died, and then we pick up in verse 2:
Now there was a man in Maon whose business was in Carmel:
and the man was very rich, and he had three thousand sheep

and a thousand goats. And it came about while he was
shearing his sheep in Carmel...
That term, "shearing his sheep" in verse 2, and also in verse 4, had special
