I Peter 3, II Corinthians 6
We looked at a few verses in the Book of I Peter, Chapter 3 last week, and
for my closing point today I want to go back to this book. Beginning with Verse
7:
YOU HUSBANDS LIKEWISE, LIVE WITH YOUR WIVES IN AN
UNDERSTANDING WAY, AS WITH A WEAKER VESSEL, SINCE SHE
IS A WOMAN; AND GRANT HER HONOR AS A FELLOW-HEIR OF
THE GRACE OF LIFE, SO THAT YOUR PRAYERS MAY NOT BE
HINDERED.
TO SUM UP, LET ALL BE HARMONIOUS, SYMPATHETIC,
BROTHERLY, KINDHEARTED, AND HUMBLE IN SPIRIT;
NOT RETURNING EVIL FOR EVIL, OR INSULT FOR INSULT,
BUT GIVIN( A BLESSING INSTEAD; FOR YOU ARE CALLED FOR THE
VERY PURPOSE THAT YOU MIGHT INHERIT A BLESSING.
Somebody said that marriage is an institution that must be rebuilt every
day. And so it is, everyone who's married knows that and experiences it.
Marriage has many challenges. They come from many different directions because
life itself is a challenge. And when you bring two lives together and weave
them into one, that surely is a challenge for the best of anybody, to bring out
the best, and it can bring out the worst also.
I heard about a couple that was out driving and got into an argument. Have
you ever gotten into an argument with your wife while driving down the road?
You know, there's no place to go. You just can't jump out, so you have to live
in that silent tomb for a while.
They got into a violent argument. Nobody was winning, so finally he shut up
and she did too. Mile after mile went by and nobody said a word. They just sat
there, you know. Silent. Cold. You could cut it with a knife. Finally, he
looked over on the right and there were two mules out there in the pasture, He
said, "Relative of yours?" She said, "Yes, by marriage!"
