Daniel 3
Daniel chapter three tonight, and we're in a series of studies on Daniel that we've entitled The Man, The Myth and The Message. And I pray that you are beginning to get a little bit of a glimpse, a little bit of an overview, if you will, a little bit of an understanding about this really amazing and absolutely important book.
And if you've been here over the last several weeks, you will realize that in Daniel, chapter one, what we learned as we looked through those verses there about the exiles coming into captivity, is that God was faithful to guide Daniel and his three Hebrew friends, and by the way, he'll be faithful to guide you, too, if you'll just simply be obedient to him. That's Daniel, chapter one.
And then last Sunday night we looked at Daniel, chapter two. And we saw there how the God of heaven is the God who sets up and brings down the kingdoms of this world. And in the end, he will establish his own eternal kingdom. Daniel chapter one, Daniel chapter two, and so that brings us to Daniel chapter ...Three.
Are you sure? All right. You said it kind of like it had that Valley Girl question mark on the end of the sentence, amen? Daniel chapter one, Daniel chapter two, and now Daniel chapter Three. That's much better. Daniel chapter three focuses on the three Hebrew men who glorified God in the fiery furnace. Hey, by the way, we're not specifically told, but I absolutely do believe that the writer of Hebrews had Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in mind when he wrote Hebrews, chapter 11, beginning in verse 33. He talks about those who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of the lions - that's later on in Daniel. Watch this - Quenched the violence of fire; Escaped the edge of the sword; Out of weakness remained strong; Became valiant in battle; Turned to flight armies of the aliens ...
