Deuteronomy 6:1-6
The next few weeks we are going to talk about the family, but specifically... parenting. - As we launch into this I want us to have our eyes open. Families can be messy, but it is God's idea. God loves the family. He loves marriage. He loves your kids and grandkids, even more than you do. - But no family is perfect, no parent is, and no kid is.
In Genesis the first couple is created, Adam and Eve. They of course bring sin into our world and a mess ensues. Their first children are Cain and Able and the older brother kills the younger. - That's a pretty horrible picture of the FIRST FAMILY. -Parenting is HARD. It is spiritual warfare.- Sometimes our children do things that we can't understand. There are ZERO guarantees that they will turn out EXACTLY like we hope. - They have a mind of their own. They have a sin problem of their own.
BUT GOD HAS A PLAN for the family. - God has a design for the family. - He wants us and our kids to flourish spiritually living according to His design. He wants to use us in our kid's lives. - God wants to use us in the lives of others period. - If you are not a parent, a lot of the principles we are going to discuss can be applied to your life or the life of people you disciple. If you are a parent... you must disciple your kids or the world will. ?
God wants us to prepare our children to be LAUNCHED INTO THE WORLD. - Listen, those of us with young children... they aren't going to be young forever.
Ps. 127:3-5- Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth.
Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.
Children will not always be children. Arrows are for battles. Our children are going to fight real battles, deal with real serious issues.
