Deuteronomy 6:7-9
Today we continue our series in Dt. 6 called Raising Arrows. That title is taken from...?Ps. 127:3-5- Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth.
Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.
That passage shows us a picture of well-prepared kids launched into the world. Dt. 6 shows us how to get there. It shows us how we are to invest in our kids and the next generation to see them become all God intends.
Last week we talked about the target, the goal... to personally know and love God. - That's God's plan for all of us... including our kids/grandkids and we need to model that.
Today I want to talk about preparing ... about creating an environment for spiritual conversation, growth, and life change. - It's all about the connection between us, our kids, and God's Word. Environments matter!
ILLUS. -I remember reading years ago that fast food restaurants use bright colors so you will hurry up and eat and get out. - That's the environment right? They don't want you hanging out. It's fast food! - Environments inform and reinforce the goal. - Let me ask you... what place can you go to that helps you feel most relaxed? - You got a place in your head? Cool. You know why? Environments matter. They inform and reinforce the goal.- Think about a GREENHOUSE.- The whole purpose is to create an environment four plans to flourish. - Our homes need to be SPIRITUAL GREENHOUSES. (As does the church, etc.)
The home should be a place where the Word of God fills it, the truth of God is informing everything. It should be a place of training, discipleship... it should be a God-centered place, a gospel saturated place. - There are some practices we need to embrace.
