Deuteronomy 6:20-25
ILLUS.- Why? You ever hear that question? As a kid sometimes your mom would say... Go and do such and such and you'd say .... ugh... but whhhyyyy? And she'd say... ''Because I said so.'' - Right? - Kids are always asking why? Now it's not always to challenge authority. Many times they just want to know WHY?
We live in a culture now where more and more people are asking WHY? Why believe the gospel? Why obey God? Why are you a Christian? Why should I be one? - Millenials and Gen Z and the generations to follow have a lot of why's.
If you are a parent or a grandparent, an aunt/uncle, etc. You need to be able to give an answer when a kid you love says... Why? Why do you love God? Why are you a Christian? Why do you live your life that way? Why do you obey God? You need to be able.
But also... we need to be able to give the world and answer to WHY.
1 Peter 3:15- but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,
We need to be prepared to talk about why we live for Jesus, why we hold our values, why we go, send, give, serve.
In Dt. 6 God shares with them what to do when their children ask why? What's the meaning of all these rules, these laws? What's all this about Dad? Hey Mom, why do we do this stuff?
Dt. 6:20-25- 20 ''When your son asks you in time to come, 'What is the meaning of the testimonies and the statutes and the rules that the Lord our God has commanded you?' 21 then you shall say to your son, 'We were Pharaoh's slaves in Egypt. And the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand. 22 And the Lord showed signs and wonders, great and grievous, against Egypt and against Pharaoh and all his household, before our eyes. 23 And he brought us out from there, that he might bring us in and give us the land tha ...
