Birthday party-Cannon- Significance of Birthdays ---One thing we may miss about Christmas it was a long time coming. How do we know Jesus' birthday is significant?- He fulfilled the prophecies.
Illus. When we think about prophecies we think about the people that think they know when the world is ending, the Mayan Calendar and such. Or people that predict the return of Christ. It's amazing how people will make these kind of predictions, be wrong, and then just make another one. But let's be honest, that's got to be a hard thing to nail! Jesus actually said, no one knows when I will return.
But when Christ came the first time there were lots of prophecies that had to be fulfilled. Things that God has said through prophets many years before. God had told the people what to look for. Jesus came as the fulfillment of these prophesies.a
We are calling this series Fulfillment because Jesus is the fulfillment of the OT prophesies of the Messiah. These prophesies have their fulfillment in Jesus. Some in a fuller sense when he comes a second time. But Jesus is the answer to these prophesies as we are going to be seeing. And by looking at these OT prophecies and how Christ fulfills them it is my hope that if you don't know Christ that you will see in these weeks that only He can fulfill you. The deepest needs of our soul can only be met in Jesus. If you are a Christ follower I believe these texts can strengthen, encourage, and help mature you faith. We can learn a lot about Jesus from these Scriptures that were written prior to His incarnation.
