STAYING ON TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN
Joshua 23
I watched a horse race yesterday. Now, somebody says,
"Well, preacher, you must like gambling." No, I hate
gambling, but listen, I'd go to a potato bug race, man!" I
like to see a good race. I like to see it among athletes. I
like to watch any kind of competition. I followed two
horses, Affirmed and Alidar, and became intrigued with the
caliber of horses they are, the tremendous races, the
tactics that are used, and the jockeys. The whole thing is
captivating to me.
I'll have to admit that I was pulling for Affirmed. I
wanted that little ol' boy riding that horse to win; to be
a Triple Crown winner, and I was really pulling for him.
It was just a classic race and probably in your lifetime
you'll not see a better horse race, particularly at that
distance. As Alidar pulled up to Affirmed and they ran that
last mile, it was the most beautiful picture that I thing a
sportsman could ever see. Those two great animals were just
matched stride for stride. Then, of course, at the very
last, Affirmed literally nosed him out. He won by a nose,
and he won the Triple Crown. Alidar was his shadow. He
shadowed him in every race, in the Triple Crown.
You know, that was a kind of picture of life. In Jesus
Christ, a man who is saved and loves the Lord is always
going to be the winner. But you can count on it that you're
going to be shadowed all of your life by Satan. He'll never
give up. He'll stay with you. He'll try to match strides
with Christ. He'll d everything he can to defeat you in
your life. Even after you've been to the muntain, when
you've experienced the goodness of the Lord. When you've
been saved, when you've walked with God and you've seen Him
do things in your heart and life and work miracles.
