We saw last week that in the genealogy of Jesus the faithfulness of God to His promises, the sovereignty of God in accomplishing His purposes, and the graciousness of God in saving sinful people are on full display. God had been at work since the very beginning to redeem for Himself a people. So when you get to Jesus you have the fulfillment of something that has been at work since the very beginning. It has been said... Jesus was not plan B, but plan A.
''Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way...''
So this morning we look at the birth of Jesus Christ. It is quite simply the most significant and unusual birth story... in particular the conception, in the history of mankind. You see as Christians believe that one of the ways Jesus' birth story is so unusual is that it wasn't his beginning.
Jn. 1:1-3- ''In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.''
So in Jesus birth we are going to see not him come into existence... but take on human flesh. God, become man... while remaining God. We will get to that... but what I want you to understand is that what we are look at this morning as how God decided to come into the world.. And while to us its this incredibly cherished and beautiful story... for two people.... it shook their lives up. God was at work in their lives and IT WAS QUITE THE SURPRISE. We love surprises at Christmas...
