Joseph's Story- A Story of Simplicity (3 of 4)
Series: The Stories within the Christmas Story
Josh Malone
Matthew 1:18-25, 2:13-15, 2:19-23
We are in a series called ''The Stories within the Story.'' We are looking at various characters around the story of Advent, the greatest story ever told. These are real people, with hopes, dreams, futures... that had their lives shaped by the first Advent. None of them are the star of the Story... that's Jesus... but they all I had a role and they all were impacted by Christ's advent... and there is something we can learn from each of them.
Today we are looking at Joseph. When I read the Gospels and look at Joseph I see a good man... and a man's man.
ILLUS.- This weekend we went to the Candlelight Processional at Epcot. All these incredible voices coming together to sing songs about Jesus. This year reading the Bible... right there in the middle of that big choir was a big dude with a black coat and cowboy hat on. Unfortunately, it was not the late great Johnny Cash. However, it was Trace Adkins. -- I think every redneck that could get to Epcot was there that night.
Joseph to me is a man's man. He's a dude, a godly one. He was a blue-collar worker, a carpenter. He sort of appears and disappears.
In Joseph we see someone's life get incredibly complex really quick. - He has big decision to make ... fast. Life seems to snowball and get more and more complex. Joseph is dealing with hard things. - In the midst of that Josephs' simple response is an example to us have how to handle life in complex and hard seasons.
Joseph's story is mostly revealed to us in Matthew. Luke doesn't give us much info, it's told more from Mary's perspective but Matthew gives us the story from Joseph's perspective.
Matthew 1:18-25- 18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19 And her h ...
