What is the best news you've ever received? The worst news? The most life changing?
I wouldn't be surprised if you remember where you were at when you got any of that news because its so memorable, it effects you and your life, its hard to forget.
At Christmas we celebrate the greatest news in the world. The news that Jesus Christ has come into the world. Imagine what it must have been like that first Christmas to receive the news that God's Son had been born.--- If not a believer, assume for a second Jesus is who He says... imagine receiving that news.
Tonight lets look through the lens of the Shepherds and the angels announcement to them.
In Luke 2 we learn that the first people to learn about the birth of Jesus, from their story we learn a lot about the news of Christmas and what it means for us today.

[8] And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
Here are some men just out doing their job and they encounter a message from God. I imagine this is a day at the office they were not soon to forget. Think about this... they were not at the temple, they were not doing something most consider ''spiritual.'' They were at work and hear from God and experienced the miraculous.
Matthew Henry wrote, ''We are not out of the way of divine visits when we are sensibly employed in an honest calling, and abide with God in it.''
These men were shepherds- This was a humble job. This wasn't a group of elitist, most highly educated, or the religious leaders. These were normal guys, on the job, working hard.--- That's who God chose. (Some would say they were outcasts in society at this time.)
The news they heard was wonderful but a very simply message... unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. --- ''Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among thos ...
