Advent theme this week: PEACE
The Christmas season is anything but a time of peace for many. Many are stressed about finances and feel pressure to buy gifts so they have anxiety instead of peace. Some have difficult relationships with family and the added pressure of the holiday season makes life feel more like war than a life of peace.
Peace of mind and heart, peace with others ... feeling at peace, these are all important but the Bible speaks of a peace that is of supreme importance. In fact, it is the most important peace, and without it peace in those other areas mean little in the end.
I'm speaking of peace with God. In the end what matters most in life is do you have peace with God. Your Christmas tree can be filled underneath with gifts, your home decorated beautifully, and you can have a great family gathering this season... but in the end... do you have peace with God?
If you are believer this morning, we are going to see this is something we HAVE and celebrate. This is something we need to remind ourselves of, and live in light of. So as we read Romans 5:1-11, and park on verse 1 today ... let's look at the need for peace with God, the way to it, and the requirement to have it.?
Romans 5:1-11- Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. [2] Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. [3] Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, [4] and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, [5] and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
[6] For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. [7] For one will scarcely die for a righteous person-though ...
