The Love of Advent (4 of 4)
Series: Advent
Josh Malone
Romans 5:1-11
''Love came down at Christmas, Love all lovely, Love divine; Love was born at Christmas; Star and angel gave the sign. // Worship we the God-head, love incarnate, Love divine; Worship we our Jesus, But wherewith for sacred sign? // Love shall be our token; Love be yours and love be mine; Love to God and all men, Love for plea and gift and sign.'' - Christina G. Rossetti, Love Came Down at Christmas (Hymn)
Love came down at Christmas. In the fourth week of Advent we turn our focus to how at Christmas we celebrate God's love for us in Christ Jesus.
John 3:16 says, ''For God so LOVED the world that he gave His one and only Son that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
It was God's love that motivated Him to send Jesus into the world to save man from His sin. We must not forget that Jesus came on a mission, and it was a mission motivated by love, and that mission was to save sinners. The baby in the manger was sent by His Father to do for us what we could never do for ourselves. God so loved you and I He gave His Son.
It is no wonder that at Christmas one way we celebrate is by giving gifts. While we celebrate the wonder of the incarnation, we remember that Jesus was SENT, He was GIVEN, and one way we celebrate that is by GIVING to others.
In Romans 5 Paul writes incredible words about Gods' love for you and I that are rooted in Christ. He talks about God's love as something we can both experience and something we have tangible proof of.
You don't have to wonder this Christmas if you are loved. You may not feel loved, but the good news of the Bible is GOD LOVES YOU. In fact the entire Trinity... Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is involved in ensuring that you know today that God loves you.
