"FROM FINANCIAL BONDAGE TO FINANCIAL FREEDOM - GOD'S WAY"
Financial Series
Over two thirds of Jesus' parables dealt with stewardship of financial
and material possessions, so we shouldn't run from it.
I remember when I first pastored. I got nervous when I came to preach
on stewardship. That was because I was in bondage and I thought everyone
else was too. I learned from the Word of God the joyful freedom of financial-
freedom, as well as other kinds of freedom in the Holy Spirit, and I wasn't
as good a pastor in meeting the needs of my people. Then when the Lord taugh: me
it became a joy for me to preach these kinds of messages, because I realized
that in hearing and heeding them, some of our people are going to be set free.
And when they are set free, I get the joy and blessing from that, and other
people will become blessed by it also. So it became a real challenge and a
time of joy for me to share messages such as this. Many of you are going to
hear, and, by faith, you're going to do something about it. You see, faith
is not only something we hear about, it is something we do. Therefore,
stewardship of all that we are, and all that we have, is something that we are,
as well as something that we do.
I was reading about Dr. Charles Allen of First Methodist Church in Houston.
He is quite a preacher. He got a letter from one of his members during a
stewardship drive that said:
"Dear Dr. Allen, In reply to your request to send a check,
I wish to inform you that the present condition of my bank
account makes it almost impossible. My shattered financial
condition is due to Federal laws, State laws, County laws,
corporation laws, mother-in-laws, and outlaws.
Through these laws, I'm compelled to pay a business tax,
amusement tax, head tax, school tax, gas tax, light tax,
water tax, sales tax, ...
