Mark 3:20-35
Open your bibles to Mark 3. Today we're looking at what has been traditionally called 'the unforgivable or unpardonable sin'. If you randomly asked people in your life what they think the unforgivable sin is in the bible you would get a variety of answers. For example:
Many say the unforgiveable sin is murder. If you take the life an innocent human being, God will never forgive you. But then what do you do with Moses, David, and Paul? All were murderers yet went to heaven.
Others have argued that adultery is the unforgivable sin. But King David committed adultery and murder, and he wrote about the exuberant joy of being forgiven of both in Ps. 32 and Ps. 51. And what about the Woman at the Well in John 4 and the Woman Caught in Adultery in John 8? Jesus said rather than being condemned by God, they were forgiven by God.
Some have said denying Jesus (especially under the threat of persecution) is unforgivable. But what about Peter? He didn't just deny Jesus once, but three times. When you first repent of your sin and believe the Gospel you are forgiven of all your sin: past, present, and future. It's called Justification. God has washed your soul clean with the perfect blood of Jesus and you are forever forgiven. You were freed from the guilt and penalty of all your sin. Y ...
