Introduction:

1. As far as we know every single human being who has ever been born and lived on this planet has been given one and every person alive today has one. In fact, it is the first thing that we are given when we are born and we have to have it duly recorded before we can even leave the hospital. What am I talking about? A name.

2. Have you ever thought about how important names are? Some people would say the most important thing about us is our name. You need a name for a birth certificate. You need a name for a driver's license. You need a name for a credit card. You need a name to buy a house. You need a name to get a job. A name is a serious business though some people evidently don't think so, because these are some real names people have given their children. I am not making these up!

Regardless of what your name is the way names are used to address other people is very revealing, because obviously, we can be addressed in one of two ways either by our first name or our last name. It can be a badge of honor and the ultimate name drop when you let someone know that you and a famous person are on what we call ''a first name basis.'' For example, I am not trying to brag, but I am on a first name basis with some of the most famous people in the world: MaDonna, Cher, Bono, (now of course the dirty little secret is so is the rest of the world).
