Mark 6:45-56

Open your bibles to Mark 6. One of my all-time favorite stories is of a little boy who had one line to memorize for the Easter play: ''It is I, be not afraid.'' He kept saying it over and over again to himself. ''It is I, be not afraid. It is I, be not afraid. It is I, be not afraid.'' On the day of the program he was quite nervous. His stomach was churning, his hands were sweating; his face was flush with fear. Finally, when he stepped in front of the spotlight and the people, he froze in fear and his mind went blank. Instead of saying, ''It is I, be not afraid.'' He said, ''It's me, and I'm scared to death.''

Often, the turbulent times we face are called storms. We all face storms in life. In fact, right now you're either in a storm, coming out of a storm, about to go into a storm. None of us decide if we will encounter the storms of life; but we do get to choose how we will go through them. Will I cower to the storm or will I cling to the Savior?

Let me say this, and we will dig in. Faith isn't natural to us. Doubt is natural. Worry is natural. Fear is natural. Discouragement is natural. Believing others have it better or easier than you us natural. Waking up in the morning with a knot in the pit of your stomach because you beat yourself up all night with regrets ...
