Series: Home Room

Romans 12:1
So far in our HOME ROOM sermon series, we have covered:
- Faith toward God, how it is not enough to say we believe in God, it is necessary that we are pointed in the right direction with our back on our old life, and that we are persuaded in what we believe.
- Cost of Following Jesus or what it means to really give our lives to Jesus.
- And then last week, Jon Ports delivered the goods with a message titled, ''The Necessity of the Bible.''
This week I want to talk to you about Prayer and the Will of God.
STATEMENT: Prayer is what prepares us to walk in the will of God and the Word of God is what keeps us in it. (Say it again.) LET'S PRAY.
I loved Jon's funny story last week about a girl looking to the Word for God to tell her to marry someone named Matthew. ''If I am supposed to marry Matthew, let me find his name as the 123rd word of the 123rd page of the bible.'' Many Christians struggle with finding the confidence that they need that they are living in the will of God, especially when things go wrong in their lives.
Yesterday was my granddaughter Aggie's first birthday party and in addition to getting a great wardrobe of dresses and shoes for the colder months, she also got some pretty sophisticated toys that talk and sing and teach babies basic skills using pretty advanced technology. I mean when I was a little kid, it was toys like gumby and tinker toys, Lincoln logs and G.I. Joes. I mean basic stuff. Last night we ate cake decorated with an icing design that came from a photograph! I mean, back in my day, we would play games like ''pin the tail on the donkey.'' A blindfolded contestant is spun around and pointed in the general direction of the donkey. He takes the tail and attempts to pin it on the donkey in the right location. Lots of fun!
I think playing the ''pin the tail on the donkey'' game is like trying to find the will of God for many Christ ...
