Portrait of an Encourager
Ron Clarkson
Ecclesiastes 4:9, 10
WELCOME: Let's pray together as we examine the area of encouragement and as we take a look this morning at someone who s life was a Portrait of Encouragement.
PRAYER: Father, we have come here this morning to find out more about you, and to find out more about what you want to teach us. Some of us here are fairly new to this Father. We are here for the first time, or only have come a few times, and we are simply checking this place out. We are trying to understand you and what you are about. Others here this morning, Father, have been on their spiritual journey for a while, and we are looking forward to moving further down the road, just wanting to know you in a deeper way than we do now. Father, regardless of where we are in our spiritual journey, we all need encouragement. Not only do we need encouragement, Father, but we need to be encouragers. Teach us this morning Father, to be encouragers, to be a fountain of life for others, to be one who offers refreshment and not ridicule to those who need it. Would you, as the great encourage, sensitize our hearts. There was a young boy anxiously awaiting the return of his dad from his Saturday morning golf game. When dad arrived the young boy asked, ''Dad, how did you do today?'' The dad responded, ''well, son, your daddy got to hit the ball more than anyone else this morning.''
The Power of Encouragement.
Everybody needs encouraging. We need encouraging for our daily tasks as well as for special responsibilities and there just never seems to be enough encouragers to meet this need. I believe encouragement is a hidden power that people don't realize they have.

What does encouragement do for us, anyway? It can do a multitude of things. It can make a situation more tolerable when someone comes along with a word of encouragement. It can help us see the light at the end of a tunnel. It gives us a hope, it boosts our s ...
