For some people, one of the hardest things to do is to wake up. When that alarm clock goes off, they are ready not just to ''hit'' the snooze button to get 9 more minutes of sleep, they are ready to smash the thing to smithereens. Many people that have a horrible relationship with their alarm clock may be those that hate their life, or that they feel they have no direction in life, or that they have no reason to get up and get out. There are some that are complacent. You hear them say, ''it is what it is'' and ''there's nothing we can do to change it.'' Some are conformists and defer to the majority to play it safe in social circles. They don't believe that they can influence any change or that their lives can have an impact on those in their world.

We all know these statements are true of many people in the world, but what about in the church? I am here to say today that there are many born again Christians that may be ''asleep.'' What do I mean by that? That certain facets of their being are not activated or are lying dormant. Some examples include:

- They know God is present, but they don't feel His presence.

- They read the Word, but nothing moves them.

- They have a hard time receiving from God.

- They believe that God speaks to everyone else in the church but not to them.

-They cut themselves off from listening to God because of past pains.

- It takes them a long time to get over things including offenses, emotional issues and sickness.

- They are not easily inspired so they mimic and echo other's beliefs without really knowing what they believe.

- They have a hard time feeling the pain of others and hearing the heart of others. They just hear words.

- They feel powerless over sin. They cannot truly repent of their sin because they are numb to their own conscience that could prevent them from sinning in the first place.
