What is the mission of Jesus?
Mark 16:15 Then he said, ''Go into the world. Go everywhere and announce the Message of God's good news to one and all.'' (THE MESSAGE)
This is traditionally called the Great Commission. People get scared when they feel they HAVE TO GO AND SAY SOMETHING TO SOMEONE. Let me help you for a moment. I believe this is the biggest hindrance for Christians. They feel they have to go door to door and awkwardly ask people to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Even though there are some people that do that and love to do that, most people are reached through RELATIONSHIP. That is why we cannot uncouple the Great Commission with the Great Commandment.
The Great Commandment is to LOVE, but the beautiful thing about the love of Jesus is that
1. FIRST, we have been recipients of His love for us personally:
- God so loved the world...,
- we love Him because He first loved us...,
- we are growing in our knowledge of His love for us (we are being rooted and grounded in love so we may be able to comprehend what is the width and length and depth and height, to really know the love of Christ which passes knowledge so that we may be filled with all the fullness of God).
2. SECONDLY, He has put His love in us for us to give it to others.
If we don't have the love of God in us and if the love of God is not flowing through us, we don't have a message.
1 Corinthians 13:13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
That word love is AGAPE which is the God-kind of love, the kind that always seeks to give even at the expense of self. Jesus gave us this love when we were born again.
1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
And He gave us the gift of this love called A ...
