When I told a brother in Christ that we wanted to talk about the superiority of the New Covenant in Jesus and some of my thoughts on it, He encouraged me that we were right in line with what is happening on the Jewish calendar.

Jesus died on Passover fulfilling the Scriptures regarding salvation through the blood of the Lamb. Jesus rose on the third day which is the first day of the Festival of Firstfruits. On the first day of the festival of firstfruits, an offering of barley from the new harvest was given to the Lord.

From the time of the firstfruit offering of barley, the children of Israel were to count 50 days until the next new harvest which would be wheat.

Leviticus 23:15 'And you shall count for yourselves from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering: seven Sabbaths shall be completed. 16 Count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath; then you shall offer a new grain offering to the Lord.

This period of time every year is called the ''Counting of the Omer.'' The omer was a sheath with 50 stalks of grain in it. The first new harvest was that of barley. God instructed the Israelites to count 50 days until the next harvest, which would be wheat. Kevin said during the time of the counting of the omer, the children of Israel were to prepare their hearts for the New harvest, the GOOD and the blessings and the growth that would come to them. In order to do so, the children of Israel were instructed to do 3 things:

1. Reflect on their life and where they were as the people of God,

2. Repent of any transgression outside of God's will,

3. Do benevolent acts of community service.
