Exodus 12:23

Today is the day as Christians that we celebrate Pentecost. The day of Pentecost is celebrated on the seventh Sunday after Easter and follows right in line with the Jewish holiday known as Shavuot or the Feast of Weeks. There was the counting of seven weeks starting on the day after Passover. Here is a verse about the very first Passover:

Exodus 12:23 For the Lord will pass through to strike the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over the door and not allow the destroyer to come into your houses to strike you.

Don't we have something to be thankful about this morning? Under the new covenant, the precious blood of Jesus, the Lamb of God has been applied to our households, and we have been delivered from death and the destroyer has no power over us! We have been saved by the blood of Jesus!

The counting of the omer culminates on Shavuot which marks the 2nd harvest or the wheat harvest in Israel at which time the children of Israel would bring a first fruit offering of wheat to the Lord. Joel 2:28 ''And it shall come to pass afterward That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see visions. 29 And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My ...
