In our series, ''It's Better This Way,'' we are getting an understanding of much of what we believe in the New Testament as it related to the Old Testament.

In Judaism, every Sabbath, the following scripture is read:

Deuteronomy 6:4 ''Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. 6 ''And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

SIGN ON HAND

The hand represents the part of us with the most activity - what do we do with the hand? We work, we make, we cook, we build, we love. With the word on our hands, we will follow God's ways with how we conduct ourselves at work and at home, at school and in society. The Word should shape how we think, how we live and how we love others.

FRONTLETS BETWEEN EYES

Regarding Frontlets, this is writings on the prayer shawl. Since the prayer shawl covers the head, the writing is across the forehead and the eyes. The eyes are the organs of direction in walking or moving, and so on the forehead, the chamber of thought and purpose. To keep the word ever before us so that it would direct our path and that our minds would be cleans by the word of the Lord, that we would not walk by human sight, but that we would walk by faith in the Word of God. When the person was in prayer with the prayer shawl on, the Word was before him. This speaks of the importance to PRAY THE WORD. When you don't know what to pray, and you're not praying in the Spirit, pray the Word. When we ...
