We are studying seven statements that Jesus made that are recorded in the Gospel of John. These statements begin with a very important phrase, ''I am.'' Jesus said, ''I am the bread of life'' (6:35), ''I am the light of the world'' (8:12, 9:5) ''I am the door of the sheep'' (10:7, 9), ''I am the good shepherd'' (10:11, 14), ''I am the resurrection and the life'' (11:25), ''I am the way and the truth and the life'' (14:6), and ''I am the true vine'' (15:1, 5).

Our series is entitled, I Am: Jesus in His Own Words. Everybody has a perception in their mind of who Jesus is. And that perception has probably been influenced by our culture and our own assumptions and maybe some bad teaching we've gotten, so it's easy to wind up with a distorted view of Jesus. It's important for us to learn about Jesus as He is revealed in Scripture and to listen to Jesus in His own words.
