AMBASSADORS FOR THE KING

II CORINTHIANS 5: 17 - 21

JESUS CHRIST specializes in "new creations."
There are few words that contain as much promise,
opportunity, and hope as those found in II Corinthians 5:17: "If

"In Christ" a new humanity has been created. Those who
have repented, responded, and become reliant upon Him are new
creatures.
Have you ever visited the Butterfly Building at Callaway
Gardens? It is a delightful experience. The life cycle of the butterfly
is observable in this lovely setting. It is amazing that a creature as
ugly as a pupa can crawl into a simple cocoon and later emerge as
a beautiful butterfly. It is a total transformation. A new creature
emerges.
An even more amazing transformation is that any one can
enter into Christ and emerge a new creation.
This dynamic change is not cosmetic. It is internal and
eternal. It is an inner change that only Christ can make, but He can
make it in anyone. It is a newness that ties together our past,
present, and future. As time passes and we grow in grace and
knowledge, this newness can be seen in every area of our life. It
produces a new internal unity, a new direction, new goals, and a
new commitment.
Let's explore our text and apply it.
I. OPTION "IF"
This little word contains the mystery of the you that is
potential. Locked in it is the optional new you.
Some persons bring JOY WHEREVER they go. Others bring
JOY WHENEVER they go.
Christ can even change such a person.
"If" lets us know our loving Lord has created us with a free
will. "If" means we are not captives to our heredity, our genes, or
our environment.
Will James, father of modern psychology in the west said,
"The greatest discovery of the 20th Century is..." What would you
say it is? The computer, airplane, air conditioning, or TV? Perhaps
you would agree with the Cajun who said ...
