The Reach of Hope (1 of 4)
Series: Hope
Lenny Ports
Joel 3:16
Hopelessness is such a sad word, but the prevalence of it in the earth today is staggering. For example, as of the Fall of 2018, more than 20% of college students in the US have had feeling of hopelessness in the previous 12 months. 17% of them were so depressed that they couldn't function. About 7% had considered suicide, and more than 1% had attempted suicide. I know college is difficult, but this is just one statistic and it is of college students who are probably in a higher income echelon than others their age who cannot afford a college education. What would the stats look like for them? And what about the people who have suffered loss and devastation or those who have been abused and had a crime committed against them? What are the hopelessness statistics for those that have been victims of hatred and bullying?
Rather than studying the problem of hopelessness in our nation and in the world, why not be a beacon of light in our own community? Why not shine a light of hope to people that are having feelings of hopelessness? Why not reach out to a community that has struggles they tell no one about with the love of Jesus, a shoulder to cry on, and a message of HOPE?
Because Jesus is the One that REACHES down to lift us up when we are down.
- He is the Light that shines in the darkness.
- He is the Father to the fatherless and the husband to the widow.
- He is the Friend that sticks closer than a brother.
- He is the One that brings us victory in the midst of our defeat.
- He is the Forgiver when we've sinned.
-He is the Savior to the lost.
- He is the Good Shepherd that leads us to still waters.
- He is the Deliverer to the oppressed.
- He is the Lover of our soul even when we hate ourselves.
- He never leaves us even when everyone else has scattered.
-He never gives up on us even when we give up on ourselves.
-He is our Strength when we are weak.
