A few observations from this story.

1. First of all, the fact that Jesus would ride into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey is bizarre. You would think that the King of Kings would be riding into Jerusalem with all the pomp and circumstance that comes from being Royalty. You would think that He would at least be on the back of a camel or a stallion with a crown on His head and a scepter in His hand, that there would be dancers and servants in His parade. But no. The meek and lowly Savior came humbly on a donkey into Jerusalem. And the craziest part of it all is that it was the fulfillment of a prophecy in the book of Zechariah, ''Tell the daughter of Zion, 'Behold, your King is coming to you, Lowly, and sitting on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey''' (vs 5 above). What an amazing orchestration of events in God's plan!

2. Secondly, the multitudes cried out, ''HOSANNA,'' which means, ''Save now,'' and then they said, ''Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!'' They were acknowledging Jesus as the One who brought heaven to earth. They saw Him do miracles, they heard Him teach about the Kingdom, they believed that He was the Messiah. But there was one problem. THEY DIDN'T UNDERSTAND GOD'S PLAN. They wanted the Glorious Messiah. They didn't understand that He had to come the first time as the Suffering Messiah. Their ''Hosanna'' or ''Save now'' song of praise was actually a plea for themselves. They wanted Jesus to deliver them from the corruption of the religious and political system they were living in. They wanted Jesus to overturn the religious system that was not working for them - the widows and the orphans were not being attended to. They wanted Jesus to take over the political system that was racked with injustices. Their song of praise had a selfish motivation. They wanted Jesus to take over NOW. HOSANNA, SAVE NOW, O ...
