I want to talk to you today about our TURNING POINT. In some circles, it is called REPENTANCE. I want to teach it to you in light of the Cross and the Resurrection. The Turning Point.
Repentance merely means ''to turn'' and the context of us turning has to do with turning AWAY FROM some things and turning TOWARD other things. Repentance scripturally is all about turning away from sin and toward the Lord Jesus Christ.
It was the message of John the Baptist
Matthew 3:1 In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, 2 and saying, ''Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!''
It was the message of John the Baptist
Matthew 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, ''Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.''
It was the message of the early church.
Mark 6:12 So they went out and preached that people should repent.
It is a gift of God
Acts 5:30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a tree. 31 Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.
Godly sorrow produces it
2 Corinthians 7:9 Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. 10 For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.
The cross is the turning point for our lives to be turned over to Jesus. And the resurrection points us in the right direction. The cross turned me around! I saw the Love of God demonstrated through Jesus dying for me on the cross. You may say to me, ''I was raised in a Christian home and can't remember a time that I made a turn.''
