10 I rejoiced greatly in the Lord that at last you renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you were concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it. 11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

Our ''Joy Ride'' ends today, hopefully not though. Today we come to a verse that ranks right up there in the ''well known department'' with John 3:16. Most people are familiar with verse 13, although stated in the more commonly expressed way, ''I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me'' (NKJV). This verse has been used so often out of context that it has taken on a completely different meaning than what Paul actually meant. For some it has become the ultimate self-help verse, ''I can do anything.'' This verse has been printed on key chains, coffee mugs, t-shirts, cell phone cases - contributing to what has been coined the ''Trinkerization of Christianity.'' And if it is being used on the ball field, it means ''I can do anything and I can do it better than you!''
But this verse does not mean I can do anything. There are lots of things I can't do. I can't jump over tall buildings, I can't fly, I can't hold my breath for 10 minutes underwater, I can't perform brain surgery, and I can't slam dunk a basketball, just to name a few things I cannot do.
