In this sermon series we are going to discuss the little book of Ruth. This little book stands tall among the books of the bible. In this book we see that God calls those that are afar off from the ''Common Wealth'' of Israel and allows them to come near.
Ruth is one of the women that helped form the bloodline of Jesus Christ. In the genealogy of Christ we find five unique women:
- Tamar was a Canaanite and a Gentile
- Rahab was a prostitute, living in Jericho and a Gentile
-Ruth was a Moabite and a Gentile
- Bathsheba was an adulterous wife, but a Jew
- Mary was an unknown virgin, the mother of Jesus, but a Jew
In this little book we will learn lessons and life and love. The story of Elimelech, Ruth, Mahlon, and Chilion, is one of sin, silence, suspense, and sovereignty. There is no other book in the bible where we see such profound lessons about living life. We learn life lessons about making decisions, about death and dying, and about how our decisions affect others.
In this little book of merely four chapters we are introduced to the sovereign hand of God as he overrides the woeful mistakes of a father and introduces a Moabitish maiden to her Boaz. The Book of Ruth is more than lessons about life; it is about love, grace, goodness, and salvation.
We never know where life will take us, but we can find nuggets of hope in knowing that no matter where we go, the love and mercy of God will be there!!!
