Exodus 34:4-7
Erasmus was a Dutch scholar who composed a new Greek NT in the 1600's. He was a Roman Catholic who believed in the authority of the pope, the teaching of the church and rejected Luther's emphasis on faith alone. In one of his letters to Erasmus, Martin Luther wrote, ''Your thoughts of God are too human.''
In his book, When Children Ask About God, Rabbi Harold Kushner wrote that children come to think of God as a kind of super parent who controls everything in the world and they develop unrealistic expectations that, because God loves them, no harm will ever come upon them.
In a 2010 survey, Americans believe that God, quite simply, is love. Christians, Hindus, Jews and Buddhists alike describe a loving presence who offers a pathway to goodness, peace, and brotherhood. Some imagine him or her, as limitless energy. Others, as a force of nature as great as the ocean and as dear as a baby's smile.
People who have not been taught the truth about God invent a God of their own making in their mind and expect he will do for them what they want him to do to make them happy or content.
Only the Bible gives us a real view of the character of God. Stephen Charnock - ''It is visible that God is (his creation), it is invisible what he is (his character).''
