Proverbs 29:18
Vision is what God sees for your life and God knows where He wants to take you. We need a vision for our own lives, but we also need to be able to know what the vision of the church that we belong to is.
One of the key scriptures about Vision is:
Proverbs 29:18 (NAS) Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained, But happy is he who keeps the law.
Another translation says, ''Where there is no vision, the people perish'' which means the people cast off restraint. If you aim at nothing, you'll hit it every time. If people don't have a focused vision, they won't have a path to stay on. They'll go here and go there. They go through life and they are just existing. They are not going anywhere. They'll try this and try that. They'll do wrong. People need a vision for their lives, but they also need restraints, they need curbs, people need to know where they are going in life in order that they may stay on the path God has for them.
The only example I can give is what it was like on the soccer field when my kids were very young. The ref throws the ball out there and these kids just all run to the place where the ball is, not caring who they run into, just wanting to get to the ball to kick it and when they got close enough to the ball and they attempted to kick it, they mainly just kicked the shins of all of the other players around them. At times these young players lose their direction and kick it into their own goal! Where there is no goal in view or the wrong goal in view, the team will lose, but where there is direction and vision, the better chance they have of winning!
The worst thing for a pastor to hear is ''where is this church going?'' That shows that there has been no vision cast. People need direction personally, but they also need to know where they are going as a church body!
