Series: Profiles of the Protestant Reformation. This is the second (2) in a series of four (4) messages that were delivered on the four Sundays leading up to and culminating in Reformation Sunday.

Introduction: Our emphasis upon a personal salvation experience (the new birth), baptism for believers only, a believer's church, a simple worship structure, separation of church and state, the Lord's Supper as a memorial supper, emphasizing Jesus and the New Testament, living differently, living holy lives, following Christ, committed to discipleship, every believer a minister and a missionary, these are all prominent themes among the radical reformers. And not surprisingly, they sound a lot like the way we ''think'' and ''do'' church today.

While the great teachings of Scripture alone, grace alone, and faith alone come to us mainly through the major protestant reformers, much of the way we ''practice'' our faith comes to us through what we call the ''radical reformation.'' The mainline protestant reformers give us a greater appreciation for loving God with our ''mind,'' while the radical reformers give us an appreciation for loving God with our ''heart and strength.''

Radical, meaning they lived outside the established order, neither Catholic nor Protestant, a ''reformation of the Reformation'' as some have termed it.
