There are times in our lives when we feel nervous because the future is not certain so we don't know what will happen to us.

1. When we are laid off from a job what will happen to us?
2. When we face surgery will the doctor be able to fix us?
3. When we lose a loved one who will be there for us?
4. When we move to a new location who will help us?

God is always with us. His presence gives us comfort and security. Hebrews 13:5 He promised, I will never leave you or forsake you. Who knows us completely? Who loves us fully? Who cares for us so well? Who is always with us no matter where we are? God!

Background 27:41-44 Esau hated Jacob because he had stolen his family blessing and was thinking about killing him after his father died. Rebekah wanted to protect his life so she suggested Jacob leave and go to stay with her brother until Esau's hatred calmed down.

PICTURE OF HEAVEN :10-12 Sleep :10-11 Beersheba - was the southernmost city in Juda located 40 miles south of Jerusalem in the desert.

Haran - was in Syria 500 miles north of Beersheba where his grandfather Abraham had come from over 100 years earlier.

Jacob was running for his life out of fear that his brother Esau might kill him. He was desperate to get as far away as he could as fast as he could. He fled by himself without anything, but the clothes on his back.

:11 Certain place - Heb. no particular place. At this time (2,000 BC) there was nothing there. He names the place Bethel (:19) which means house of God (:22). Many years later a city was built there 10 miles north of Jerusalem. The distance from Beersheba and Bethel to the north is 60 miles. If Jacob traveled 20 miles a day then this would have been the third day after he had left his home and family. He must have been filled with regret for what he had done, uncertain about the future even though he had received the family bles ...
