If you have your Bibles with you now this evening, be finding your way to Genesis, chapter number 41. Genesis chapter 41. We're looking tonight at what I shared with you this morning, I'm calling it ''The Exaltation of Joseph.'' Genesis 41, beginning at verse 41. Let's read a few verses to get all of our minds and hearts going in the same direction. If you're in Genesis 41:41, say amen.

The Bible says there, ''41 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, ''See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.'' 42 Then Pharaoh took his signet ring off his hand and put it on Joseph's hand; and he clothed him in garments of fine linen and put a gold chain around his neck. 43 And he had him ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried out before him, ''Bow the knee!'' So he set him over all the land of Egypt.''

I was thinking of a phrase coming in tonight. I googled it, and we don't know whether Abraham Lincoln made this statement, or Thomas Carlyle, Horatio Alger. We don't really know exactly who made this statement, but I want you to listen to this statement, and I'm going to kind of tweak it, if you will, and bring us back around and get us where we need to be here tonight. Have you ever heard this statement? Again, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Carlyle, one of those guys. ''Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power.''

As we look into the life of Joseph tonight, we see a young man who started off as his daddy's favorite boy, daddy's boy, his favorite son, so much that he gave him that coat of many colors. He was sold into slavery by his brothers, and wound up in Egypt. He was put in Potiphar's house; put over all of Potiphar's house. Then Potiphar's wife lied about him. He ended up in jail for years and years and years and years. He helped two guys while he was in jail.

Then they forgot about him, and then last wee ...
