As you're turning to Ephesians chapter 1, we are continuing our study on the Bible doctrine of what many refer to as ''once saved, always saved,'' or ''Once in grace, always in grace. I'm referring to the:

The Doctrine of the Eternal Security of the Believer.

It's wonderful to be saved! Do you know what's better than being saved? It's being saved and knowing that you're saved. And even better than that is being saved and knowing that you're saved and knowing that you can never, ever, ever be a lost soul again!

Now somebody says, ''Suppose a person joins the church who claimed to be saved, who for several years was very active: sang in the choir, served as a Sunday School teacher, gave generously but after some years they turn their back on the church and returns to the world and even worse: denies the very gospel they once professed? How does that square with the doctrine of the eternal security of the believer?'' It doesn't square with the doctrine of the eternal security of the believer!

Saving faith compels believers to eventual repentance and restoration. You never find a believer in the bible whose eternal security was an excuse for sin. In fact, just the opposite such as Romans 6.1-2, ''What should we say then? Should we continue in sin so that grace may multiply? 2 Absolutely not! How can we who died to sin still live in it?'' 

John helps clear up the fog in 1 John 2.19, as he explains: ''They went out from us, but thy did not belong to us; for if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us. However, they went out so that it might be made clear that none of them belongs to us.'' (CHSB)

Those who are genuinely saved continue in the faith and good works throughout their lives. Jesus tells us in Matthew 10.22, ''You will be hated by everyone because of my name. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.'' And we hear ...
