Nehemiah 2:9-20
This particular sermon was preached on Father's Day.
It is certainly a challenge to be a man of God, it's always been that way. Our culture seems to have a one-dimensional view of manhood and that view is sorely lacking in the biblical manhood department. If you want to see a real man, you need only look at Jesus - the perfect man who displayed strength and meekness. In every age, a godly man has the ability to shape others for good, whether that is his family, the church, or a nation. We have been spending some time on Sunday mornings with a godly man named Nehemiah. God's hand was upon him and he has been called to a great task. He has everything he needs to fulfill the job, his mission, but his work is just getting started. When Nehemiah arrives in Jerusalem, he will need to assess the situation firsthand, rally the people to the great work ahead, and prepare them and himself for the adversity that will surely come as they rise up and build.
Life Application: ''Responding to God's invitation to join Him in His work will require an assessment of our current situation, a commitment to action, and a willingness to face adversity.''

9 Then I came to the governors of the province Beyond the River and gave them the king's letters. Now the king had sent with me officers of the army and horsemen. 10 But when Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite servant heard this, it displeased them greatly that someone had come to seek the welfare of the people of Israel.
11 So I went to Jerusalem and was there three days. 12 Then I arose in the night, I and a few men with me. And I told no one what my God had put into my heart to do for Jerusalem.
