Romans 8:31-39
There is nothing like dangerous weather that sort of unsettle you. As we prepare for Hurricane Dorian we are reminded just how wild and unsettling this world can be. -We want to be SAFE. We want our loved ones to be safe and ultimately we long for SECURITY.
KNOWN and FELT SECURITY BREEDS FEARLESSNESS.
ILLUS. - Have you ever been to the top of the Empire State Building? - Going up the elevator... it messes with your head a bit. You get to thinking. What if it drops? - It's probably quieter on the elevator than at the top! - I'm fearless. Why? I feel safe. - It's like when I try and get my kids to jump into the pool... I have to first convince them its safe. They are secure. - Security breeds fearlessness.
If you want to live life fearlessly for God's glory. You need to know your security.
True safety and security only comes in relationship with God. Only He can make us truly safe. Today, we close out our Romans 8 series. This last section really celebrates the love of God, but it also as Douglas Moo notes a ''celebration of the believers security.'' - Deep down we all want to know this... IT'S GOING TO BE OK. -I mean bad things happen. Things we can't plan or know. But we want to know... it's going to be OK.
God's Word for the believer is that things are going to be way better than OK.
In Christ we can know... though suffering, hurt, pain, trials, failures, struggles, sickness, and death may come... ultimately, everything is going to turn out GREAT.
Today, we get to hear Paul celebrate our security in Christ. As the old hymns says... What a fellowship, what a joy divine, Leaning on the everlasting arms; What a blessedness, what a peace is mine, Leaning on the everlasting arms. Leaning, leaning, Safe and secure from all alarms; Leaning, leaning, Leaning on the everlasting arms.
