Wait for It (14 of 23)
Series: The Book of Romans
Josh Malone
Romans 8:18-30
This morning we continue our series in Romans 8. I've titled the sermon... WAIT FOR IT. - We hate to wait don't we? A big part of the Christian life is WAITING. We don't like waiting.
We have MICROWAVES, and DVR to fast forward commercials, or Netflix to simply not have to wait at all. We go to Disney and we have FASTPASSES.
ILLUS. - Flight of Passage - I don't wait in Disney lines. - To me... not worth the wait. - Well, I waited like an hour once for FOP. All the sudden the wall opens and here I am... I'm in stinking Pandora. I mean I can feel the fake horse breathing! I mean it's crazy. - Then I remember. I don't like to fly. Don't want to fly. - Wait. I'm flying! Oh my! - Most realistic simulation I've ever seen. - Now, I know... why people wait 2 hours. - It's incredible. It's what you may say is... WORTH THE WAIT.
Some things are worth the wait... some are not. - Today's passage shows us how being a Christ follower is worth the wait. We are awaiting a future that is secured for us by God. It's going to be incredible. But in the meantime... we suffer, we hurt, life can be hard... but what's coming is WORTH THE WAIT.
This is going to be the big idea of today's text... The future of the believer is worth the wait, therefore... wait with expectant patience. -
Rom. 8:18-30- 18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
Paul acknowledges here that this life consists of suffering. But he says it's not even comparing with the coming glory. In other words... is it worth it is not even a question that comes to mind.
Sufferings here is general term for all the sufferings we can encounter. - Persecution, trials, sickness, difficulties... there are a myriad of STUFF that happens in life. - But there is GLORY TO COME.
Glory is our future with God, with new bodies, a new Heaven and ...
