Romans 8:12-17
Today, we are talking about this subject The Spirit Led Children of God. - If you are a born-gain believer in Christ today, if He is your Lord, your Savior... your hope... then you are a child of God. You have been given God's Spirit in you to lead and direct your life. Your identity is not one of outsider, but one of family. - When you came to know Jesus you were brought into God's family and your entire past, present and future was transformed.
Everybody wants to LABEL YOU. - By class, race, political affiliation, career, your past, your income... How does GOD LABEL YOU? That is what matters.
Paul in this passage teaches us something about our IDENTITY in Christ. He teaches us about the work of the Spirit of God in us. I want you to see what it means to be a Spirit Led Child of God and show you the marks of one in this text. We need to KNOW who we are and we need to know how the Spirit of God is working in our lives so we can LEAN into it.
Rom. 8:12-17- 12 So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, ''Abba! Father!'' 16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs-heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
Notice the identity markers in this text. -It's the language of FAMILY. The Bible uses both BIRTH and ADOPTION to describe how we become children of God.
John 3 says we must be BORN-AGAIN. Romans 8 says we have the Spirit of ADOPTION. ...
