Every year about this time, I wait w/ bated breath the annual Darwin Awards - those special awards given to those individuals who have (and I quote) improved the human gene pool by removing themselves from it in spectacular fashion - or almost removed.
In 2017, a Seneca, SC man who'd been w/out power for 2 weeks b/c he couldn't afford to pay his bill decided to illegally restore power by climbing a metal ladder w/ jumper cables. Witnesses say it sounded like a shotgun went off when the 7,200 volts arced across the jumper cables designed for 12 volts - shooting the man off the ladder and several yards from the pole. Yet b/c he didn't die from his act, the man only received an honorable mention Darwin Award.
This year's winner goes to a rhino poacher in S. Africa who snuck onto a game park w/ the intent of illegally poaching an endangered rhino - only in the process, he was trampled by an elephant and then eaten by a lion. The only thing to become extinct was the man.
Today I want to continue our study on the doctrines of our faith by looking at the doctrine of man - known as anthropology and the doctrine of sin - hamartiology.
doctrine - Doctrine is teaching to define, describe, and delineate our faith to provide clarity into truth.
As we've discussed... understanding and founding our lives on doctrine is critical to growing in and living out our faith - for w/out sound doctrine, our lives will be set adrift by the winds/currents of religious lies and cultural affections that lead us away/astray from God.
Man is the special creation of God, made in the image of God. He created them male/female as the crowning work of His creation. The gift of gender is part of the goodness of God's creation. In the beginning man was innocent of sin and was endowed by his Creator w/ freedom of choice. By his free choice man sinned against God and brought sin into the human race. Thru Satan ...
