Several yrs. ago, a prominent Canadian developer built a subdivision in the suburbs of Toronto. Apparently, the lots sold quickly and were built on even quicker - for when the next winter arrived w/ the rain, sleet, and snow, one house after another collapsed into sinkholes. Under pressure, the developer confessed the subdivision had been built over a landfill. Instead of bringing in good fill dirt to prepare good foundations, he simply built on top of the garbage. Such is basis of the penetrating question Jesus asked in Luke 6.
In this text, we find a piercing question followed by a parable that confronts all of us today as it did on the day Jesus asked it in His great Sermon on the Mount.
If you're just joining us, we're in a series of messages looking into a few of the 307 questions Jesus asked during his earthly ministry - questions that penetrated the heart and brought each/every person face-to-face w/ the Truth of God.
The question we're going to look at this AM is found at the end of this amazing sermon. There's no doubt the Sermon on the Mount was the central message of Jesus' ministry. In this message we find the Beatitudes, the Lord's Prayer, and a host of other essential teachings centered on the Kingdom of God.
The question we're going to look at today comes at the end of this sermon - the invitation. Now you likely recognize the invitation might be the most vital part of the message b/c it is the call to action.
