Have you ever had to learn something the hard way? Maybe it was a life lesson... a relationship lesson... a financial lesson? If you listen to Dave Ramsey, he calls hard financial lessons paying a ''stupid tax.''

I can't speak for you, but I've had to learn a few lessons the hard way. Like when I was 7 and I had to learn the hard way never to disrespect you momma! Sadly, I had learned some choice, inappropriate words from a few school friends that no one should ever say, and when my mother asked me to do a chore I didn't want to do (in my 7 yr old wisdom) I decided to use them to tell my mother ''NO''. Needless to say, I learned the hard way (1) never to be disrespectful to my mother; (2) if you're going to be dumb enough to be disrespectful, don't use curse words to express yourself! (3) pick better friends! If only someone would've stepped in and advised me not to do - they could've saved me from a world of hurt.

As we continue our study in Daniel about how to live unbowed in our world and humbly before God, we're going to learn how to Stand UP for others when they appear determined to learning a lesson the hard way.

I know this might be hard to believe, but not every lesson has to be learned the hard way - it can be learned the smart, easy way - if we'd just listen!

Rather than reading the entire story - let me recap what happened in Daniel 4. In one of the more unique chapters in the Bible, the pagan king of Babylon, Neb shares w/ his subjects a personal testimony of how he learned the hard way Proverbs 16:18 - Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall.

What Happened: Neb has had another dream, and once again he couldn't find anyone but Daniel to interpret it. Of course, by this time, Daniel is in his mid 50's - and he and His God are well known to Neb whom Daniel has served faithfully w/out compromising his faith/trust in God.
