If you're just joining us. We're in a series in Daniel entitled - Unbowed. To live unbowed means to not be submitted to the pressure/demands around you - to not be stuffed into the mold but to live above it for something greater. The goal of these lessons has been to encourage us to live right-side up in our upside-down, inside-out world. It's about how we can stand for truth when everyone else is falling for lies - by not living conformed to the patterns of this world, but transformed by our faith/obedience to God.

I wonder... have you ever found yourself in a place/position you never dreamed you'd be in? I was in such a place just yesterday. I was in Phenix City, AL at 4 AM eating a burrito from Taco Bell waiting to pick up Madeline to bring her home from Spring Break so momma could see her for a day or two. And I thought - I never saw this event ever in my life!

In our text today, it's safe to say that Belshazzar found himself in place/position he likely never dreamed he'd be in either, but in his case, it didn't turn out so well. He quite literally became the poster child for the phrase - the handwriting is on the wall!

The handwriting is on the wall means there's a clear indication something bad is about to happen and judgement is coming. It comes from this Bible story.

King Neb has passed away, and after a few short-lived successors, Nabonidus has become king and has made his son Belshazzar (Neb's grandson) the coregent over the city of Babylon. Sadly though, Belshazzar was a partying, indulgent putz. So much so, he threw a huge party while the Medo-Persian army was literally encamped outside the walls of Babylon making plans to overthrow the city.

But like so many people today, Belshazzar suffered from a bad case of Ostrich Syndrome. He thought if he stuck his head in the sand and ignored the problem, it'd go away on its own; but it didn't. In fact, he actually made it worse, ...
