INTRODUCTION: A man decided to shed some excess pounds. He took his new diet seriously even changing his route to work to avoid passing his favorite bakery. However, one morning he arrived at work carrying a gigantic coffee cake. His colleagues scolded him but he smiled and explained, ''This is a very special coffee cake. I accidentally drove by the bakery this morning and there, in the window, was a host of cakes and cookies. I felt this was no accident. So I prayed, 'Lord, if you want me to have one of these delicious coffee cakes, open up a parking space directly in front of the bakery'. And sure enough, the third time around the block, there it was!''
Maybe there's a more accurate way to discern the will of God. We're in a sermon series entitled ''Just Do Something - a liberating approach to finding the will of God.''
Last week we posed the question: ''Is everything that happens the will of God?'' You can go online to our website and watch that message. The answer was a qualified ''yes.'' Everything that happens is the will of God, but not in the same way. We looked at three categories of God's will:
1) That which God performs.
2) That which God permits.
3) That which God prefers.
We got comfortable with the idea that there are many things that happen in this world, and in our lives, that God neither caused to happen, nor necessarily wanted to happen, but he did permit them to happen.
Today we want to ask the next big question about God's will: ''Does God have a specific plan for my life?'' The emphasis is on the word ''specific.''
