A New Song in Our Hearts
Richard Bradley
Psalm 40:1-3
Have you ever felt depressed and sullen? So many things can make us feel this way surely we've all experienced this at one time or another. Remember the last time you felt like this? When our lives cave we don't feel much like singing did we? Singing is for those times when we feel safe and secure and know that life's problems are not able to get to us. Feeling a little hopeless right now? If so, God's got a word for you.
If you're feeling depressed you're in good company. David was often like this because of his circumstances.
1 I waited patiently for the Lord; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry.
2 He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps. 3 He has put a new song in my mouth - Praise to our God; Many will see it and fear, And will trust in the Lord. NKJV
Negative circumstances had left David depressed and sullen but then his whole outlook changed. David got a new song and so can you.
DAVID ADOPTED A NEW STRATEGY
1 I waited patiently for the Lord; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry.
The phrase ''waited patiently'' means ''to bind one's self to.'' In this case, David bound himself to God because he knew there was no place else to go. Because of his past dealings with God he knew that the Lord would eventually come through for him. When life turns against us, too many of us eventually give up and go on our way looking for answers someplace else. Not David!
Like David, are you hurting or depressed? What you need is a plan for the future and no one has a better plan for your life than the Lord. Wait on Him. Like David, bind yourself to Him and He will put a new song in your heart.
Will you wait patiently for God?
