Answering God's Call: Being the One God Uses
Richard Bradley
Acts 8:26-40
Here's an interesting concept; God wants to work for us. As believers, when it comes to God working on our behalf we must consider three indisputable facts. The first is that God wants to work on our behalf, the second is that we desperately need for Him to work for us, and third, we might just might be the one He calls to work for someone else. God's people have tried to go it alone far too often and how has that worked out? When God gets involved things always seem to somehow work out for the best don't they?
God has answered many of my prayers. I admit there are some He hasn't answered yet. But, there is one prayer I've consistently prayed that, according to evidence, God has almost universally answered. This is a prayer asking God to send others to minister to my loved ones and friends when I can't be there for them myself. Pray that prayer and you'll discover the amazing benefits of God working for you.
There was a man from Ethiopia who needed help understanding the Scriptures. God rushed Philip to the scene to share the gospel story with him. I wonder, are you ready to be the one God uses to answer someone else's prayer for help?
26 Now an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, ''Arise and go toward the south along the road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.'' This is desert.
27 So he arose and went. And behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her treasury, and had come to Jerusalem to worship,
28 was returning. And sitting in his chariot, he was reading Isaiah the prophet.
29 Then the Spirit said to Philip, ''Go near and overtake this chariot.''
30 So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, ''Do you understand what you are reading?''
31 And he said, ''How can I, unless someone guides me?'' And he asked Philip to come up and sit with him.
