Mark began his gospel telling us that he was giving the gospel of Jesus Christ the Son of God. We have read of Jesus' incredible authority over demons, sickness, nature, death. Mark goes to great pains to show us that Jesus Christ is in fact God's Son... the true King of all kings. But he also wants us to see that Jesus is a different kind of King. He says in Mark 10:45- For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.'' - Our greatest need was for Christ to give his life as a ransom for us. [33] And when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. [34] And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, ''Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?'' which means, ''My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?'' [35] And some of the bystanders hearing it said, ''Behold, he is calling Elijah.'' [36] And someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink, saying, ''Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to take him down.''
